I was a Christian for 25 years and heavily indoctrinated by school and church from an early age. 
Now though, I am an ex-Christian, and these essays explain in very simple terms why.

They are especially written to Christian members of my own family and friends.

Humanism - I am now a humanist (at least that is the philosophy I am closest to).  Find out about humanists and you may discover that you are one too.

Mindfulness - I have recently discovered the practice of “mindfulness”. There is no mysticism in this; it is no transcendental mind-emptying ritual.

It is shown to help produce calmness, reduce depression and generate a more focused approach to life so that less time is wasted fretting or regretting.

Optimism - may sound like a strange concept in these days of economic chaos. However, there are good reasons to be optimistic about the future of humanity. Check out this page for the good news.

Music - Bands, Composers, Artists.  Favourites and recommendations.

The Beauty of Evolution - once you leave behind dogmatic explanation of the Universe and Life - you start looking for Truth in all its glorious detail and difficulty, all its delight and horror.  Truth here means evidence-based, testable and falsifiable.  It doesn’t mean “random assertions by some Iron Age scribe”.

Creation myths have robbed so many of this beauty.

The spine-tingling wonder of understanding the evolution of the fig-wasp, in parallel with the evolution of the fig... it can make you dizzy.  And it all makes sense, even if there are still many areas not fully understood or only guessed
at.  We need never throw our hands up in defeat or stew in ignorance.  We don’t need to resort to the bland statements “it’s a mystery” or “a god must have done it”.  We can be confident that most things are knowable eventually.
